METHOD

Learn from what didn’t work

The best part about running an experiment is that even if it doesn't go as planned, if you learn something it's still a win.

Try these method activities to help your team build their muscles around learning from what didn't work.

End of week reflection moments

Create an end-of-the-week moment where you talk about what worked and what didn't work. Frame the conversation as "what did we learn this week?," so that experiments that worked and those that didn't both are seen as useful, positive things to build on.

Learning from individual experiments

After an experiment, ask what you learned about your students, what you learned about your team (what they are good at, what they like to do, what they don't like), what you learned about the experiment. Then brainstorm what you would do differently if you had to try something tomorrow based on these learnings./

Ritual to celebrate fails

Create a ritual to celebrate the fails. Celebrate the tries and the learnings. Create a wall of fails, and on each one add a thing you learned.
